5.0 out of 5 stars Red Alert !!!! APB for Soul Fans!!! Buy this!!!!, November 10, 2004

First of all, let me assure you that these are the Original Recordings with the exception of a live version of "Midnight Train to Georgia" which actually sounds nice & fresh after having the original played to death on the radio.

If you are a Soul Freak, you will probably own some of these songs, but there are many, many overlooked gems such as:

"Say You Love Me" a wonderful track by Patti Austin

"Love Brought Me Back" This is a gospel like mid-tempo number by D.J. Rogers (who did a great duet with Patrice Rushen which is not included here). Why was this song not a hit?

"Your Love" by Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis - a marvelous, happy love song between this married couple. You also get the massive hit, "You Don't Have to Be A Star"

"Am I Black Enough For You" Billy Paul - the "Mrs. Jones" crooner goes kind of funky on us with this affirming anthem of racial pride

"In the Mood" Tyrone Davis - T. Davis is the man! You... Read more

    5.0 out of 5 stars 40 hits, November 30, 2009

A caveat that any item coming from a company's "special products(aka "custom marketing")department, the price may vary widely. Evidently, according to one review,Amazon has had this 3 disc set as low as $6.99;it's currently listed at $8.99 with no discount. This set shows up in brick and mortar stores, too, from around $9.99 to $14.98,and you may see it listed in catalogs for as high as $19.99. If you have nothing to compare it to,twenty bucks may seem like a good deal for 3 cds. Remember that there are only 40 tracks spread on the 3 discs-they could have done it on two but stores like to display 3 disc sets as gift sets. More tracks would have added to the cost of the set. So original 40 tracks(save a "live" that is passable)at nine bucks-a great deal.
There are tracks that show up daily on any oldies station(("Play That Funky Music"),soft rock stations("Lean On Me")and urban classic soul outlets(the Marlena Shaw tracks). The interesting parts, though, are the tracks here that haven't... Read more

A great trip down memory lane. I just thought every song was going to be a hit from the title's time frame. There are some songs I never heard of from Artists that are strangers to me. I guess this is because I could not figure out how to see all the songs listed on the cd's from the advertisement online.
